888 THE KINGS OF SPEED (PART 1)

888 tops our homepage load time test
 

Data

A well worn stat using data from Gomez.com and published on the Kissmetrics blog claims that for every 1 second it takes your page to load you decrease conversion rates by 7%
 

The Test

We ran the top 10 firms from the eGR Power50 list through a page speed checker tool and the range of results where surprising.

888 came out the fastest with a blistering 1.5 second load time followed closely by bet365 at 2.3 seconds. The average for the top 10 sites was 4.71 seconds and the slowest site by far being PaddyPower at 12.2 seconds.
 

Our View

While we can’t vouch for the 7% per second change in conversion rate, crunching client data we do see a huge correlation between page speed and conversions (new players) and for existing players (time on site, games played and deposits made).
 

Even without data based on your own user experience you have to agree slow websites suck.

888 using an interesting casino cross-sell process which makes registration a one click process.
 

Data

In our testing after 15 days of being a registered customer who has not deposited at 888 their CRM emails will begin actively cross-selling you to other casinos within the group, starting with Euro City Casino.
 

The Test

This week we received bang on schedule the co-branded 888 / Euro City Casino email but with an interesting twist. By merely just clicking the link in the email an account would be automatically opened for us at the new casino. In the interests of testing, we duly did so and quickly received a follow-up email with our password and a 2nd welcome email. Making this easily the quickest casino registration process in the industry!
 

Open Questions

We’ve followed up with the 888 Affiliate team to understand if affiliates get rewarded for the players who get cross-sold within the group.
 

Our View

There are two things we really like about this:

  1. If a casino player hasn’t converted within 15 days they will probably never convert, so we endorse the try everything approach 888 are taking.
  2. The one click process speeds the sign-up process to a new casino by at least 3 to 5 minutes which can only help increase conversions.
